Following the hosting of the 2022 World Cup, Qatar has witnessed a notable increase in tourism, attributed to the introduction of new festivals, attractions, and improved diplomatic relations in the Gulf region. The nation's tourism sector has experienced a remarkable surge since hosting the World Cup in late 2022. A significant influx of new visitors is coming from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), a regional economic union consisting of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. This includes both GCC citizens and individuals working in one of the union's member states. This influx highlights Doha's growing competitiveness with more traditional tourist hubs like Dubai and Manama, the capitals of the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, respectively, as well as the Riyadh Season, a Saudi sports and entertainment festival. Official sources project a staggering 347% increase in the number of foreign arrivals in Qatar in 2023 compared to 2022. Sports play a prominent role in the country's tourism plans, with the 2022 World Cup serving as a major milestone. Doha is actively working to organize additional international sports events, including the 2023 Asia Cup, set to host 24 football teams with Qatar as the defending champion, and the Grand Prix, a Formula One extravaganza that debuted in 2021 and is now considered one of the Gulf's most advanced racing circuits. The increase in visitor numbers is also attributed to a heightened focus on Qatar's cruise tourism. The country's newly renovated Doha Cruise Ship Port is strategically located in the heart of Doha, allowing visitors to maximize their experience during their short stay in the city. Organizations aligned with the Qatar National Vision and contributors to developing the tourism industry, have provided invaluable support, greatly furthering the success of Qatar Travel Mart 2023. This impressive array of sponsors and partners includes Strategic Partner Qatar Tourism; Title Sponsor Saudi Tourism Authority-STA; Founding Partner Katara Hospitality; Event Supporters such as the Ministry of Commerce and Industry; Official Airline Partner Qatar Airways; Official Transport Partner Mowasalat; Official Hospitality Partner Ezdan Palace; Platinum Sponsor Retaj Hotels and Hospitality; Official Destination Management Company Partner Experience Qatar, and Association Partners including AMFORHT (The World Association for Hospitality Tourism Education and Training), World Tourism Association for Culture and Heritage, WLO (The World Leisure Organization), and the Islamic Centre for Development and Trade. - Nissan honors lasting legacy of the legendary Pathfinder in the Middle East
Trip down memory lane pays homage to decades-long heritage of the versatile SUV In recognition of the increasing demand for the all-new Pathfinder, Nissan is spotlighting the model’s widespread success across the Middle East by embarking on a journey through time. Since its global introduction in 1987, the Pathfinder has proven to be a reliable companion for those who seek both adventure and sophistication in equal measure. The Pathfinder’s rich legacy spans across three decades and has given rise to five unique generations, each pushing the bar higher and building on the success of its predecessors. The latest fifth-generation model, which made its regional debut last year, features a host of mechanical and technological upgrades, including an all-new 9-speed automatic transmission, a 10.8-inch Head-Up Display, and seating capacity for eight, all of which cater to the growing needs of customers in the region. Thierry Sabbagh, President, Nissan Saudi Arabia, INFINITI Middle East and Managing Director, Nissan Middle East, said: “The Nissan Pathfinder is an iconic nameplate that has provided customers with the freedom to explore for several decades. Contributing to our SUV leadership across the region, the all-new Nissan Pathfinder has seen strong demand across the Middle East, with customers admiring its innovative features, practicality, and rugged capability.” Nassim Mourani, General Manager Automotive Group at Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana Company, said: ”Over the course of three illustrious decades, the Pathfinder has etched an indelible mark, boasting five distinctive generations that continually elevated standards and expanded upon the triumphs of its forerunners. We are delighted to witness its enduring popularity – automotive enthusiasts in Qatar and the surrounding region are captivated by the evolutionary innovation that ensures this iconic vehicle resonates with the demands of today's discerning customers.” The Pathfinder’s five-generation legacy has been marked by a number of global milestones: 1) 1986: First Generation - An Unmistakable Design Cue Introduced in 1986 as a 1987 model, the first-ever Pathfinder was a two-door SUV that was a trend-setter from the get-go, with its aggressive front-end styling, including the three horizontal slots on the hood, with the Hardbody pickup that it was based on. Underneath, the rugged body-on-frame platform proved popular with off-road enthusiasts, all of whom appreciated the roomy and comfortable interior. A few years later, in 1990, two rear doors were added – complete with what became the Pathfinder's signature “hidden” C-pillar mounted rear door handles. 2) 1996: Second Generation - All-New V6 Engine for Added Capability In 1996, the Pathfinder switched to a unibody platform and adopted a new aerodynamic design. This was supported by refinements in the ride and handling departments that collectively played a key role in driving sales of the popular SUV. Five years later, the second-generation Pathfinder welcomed a 3.5-liter V6 engine for the very first time. This engine was part of the award-winning VQ-series of engines and was well received by customers across the world – as were the Pathfinder’s unique interior features and technology, including a Navigation system with a unique three-dimensional "Birdview" display. 3) 2004: Third Generation - A Seven-Seater for Larger Families The third-generation Pathfinder made its world debut at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. Amongst a host of changes was the return to a body-on-frame construction with a modified version of the F-Alpha platform, while a split, fold-down 3rd row seat gave the Pathfinder seven-passenger capability for the very first time. 4) 2013: Fourth Generation - Flexible Seating for Improved Convenience In 2013, the fourth generation Pathfinder welcomed an unprecedented level of style, comfort, fuel economy, and technology. The use of a unibody platform provided customers with numerous benefits, including a flat floor for increased roominess and cargo carrying capability. Addressing desires for increased efficiency, the fourth-generation Pathfinder was powered by a 3.5-liter DOHC V6 engine, which produced 271 horsepower and was mated to an Xtronic transmission – providing a 30 percent improvement in fuel efficiency versus the outgoing model. Bringing with it a long list of innovations, this generation of the Pathfinder also introduced the brand’s EZ Flex™ Seating System. This was supported by LATCH AND GLIDE™ technology that allowed forward movement and access to the 3rd row with a child safety seat remaining securely in place. 5) 2021: Fifth Generation - Setting the Benchmark for Innovation Fast-forward to 2021, when the all-new Pathfinder made its global debut. This fifth-generation model harmoniously merges the storied heritage of its predecessors with contemporary design and cutting-edge technology. From its refined interior to its powerful engine, the latest iteration of the Pathfinder embodies the spirit of exploration and modernity. The model’s novelty is further enhanced with a 3.5-liter DOHC V6 engine producing 284 horsepower, and the introduction of a 9-speed transmission. A two-tone paint scheme offers customers with an aesthetic differentiator, and is complemented with seating for up to eight, new captain chairs, an all-new 12.3-inch digital dashboard, and a 10.8-inch Head-Up Display. The 2023 Nissan Pathfinder, which is offered in six unique trims and the option of 2WD and 4WD models, is available at Nissan’s partner in Qatar at Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana Co., the exclusive dealer of Nissan in Qatar, at its showrooms on Salwa Road, The Pearl, Al Sadd, Bin Omran, Barwa and Al Khor. #Nissan #Pathfinder

- Qatar's Culinary Ambassador: An Exclusive Interview with Chef Hamad Alhajiri
With a wealth of experience in restaurant establishment and food consultancy within the food and beverage (F&B) sector, chef Hamad Alhajiri has taken the Qatari dining scene by storm with his unique culinary style. Chef Hamad has not only mastered the art of creating authentic Qatari dishes but has also delved into international flavors and culinary techniques. In an exclusive interview, Bisht magazine speaks with the star chef about Qatari traditional cuisine, his favorite dishes, and Arab hospitality. 1. Hamad, you're renowned as one of Qatar’s top culinary talents, specializing in traditional Qatari cuisine. Could you tell us more about the traditional dishes that Qataris enjoy at their tables? Sure. Traditional Qatari cuisine is a unique blend of flavors and techniques, reflecting our historical ties with other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. While our culinary traditions share similarities with neighboring countries, each nation within the GCC has put its unique spin on the dishes. Take, for example, our Majboos. It is what we consider our main course and is similar to the renowned Kabsa in the Kuwaiti and Saudi cuisines. 2. Can you tell us more about Majboos and its significance in Qatari cuisine? Majboos, which means "caps" or "pressed," is our main course, and it is served on various occasions, from everyday family meals to weddings and parties. It's a dish where we put everything together on one plate. It is like the leftovers together. This dish reflects the Qatari tradition of resourcefulness, dating back to when fast food was necessary for desert-dwelling communities. Although tastes have changed over time, there is still a consensus on the love of Majboos among Qataris. 3. How is Majboos prepared, and what are its main ingredients? The core ingredients of Majboos include spices, rice, tomato, onion, and garlic. You will not find vegetables in Majboos. These are integral ingredients that create the vibrant flavors of the dish. You can also add a variety of proteins, such as lamb, shrimp, chicken, or meat. Your choice of protein can be cooked alongside the rice, creating a harmonious blend of flavors. For special events like weddings, a whole sheep is used for Majboos, symbolizing the generous hospitality of Qatar. It is our way of showing our guests they are truly honored and appreciated. 4. It's intriguing to know that whole sheep are prepared for special occasions. Can you explain the significance of this? When we have guests, we believe in offering them the utmost respect and generosity. Serving an entire sheep demonstrates our genuine desire to welcome and honor our guests. This tradition extends even to the highest levels of diplomacy, exemplified by our esteemed leader, Shaikh Tamim, who follows this practice when hosting his guests— you will find whole camels and sheep gracing the table, showcasing the warmth and depth of Qatari hospitality. 5. Besides Majboos, are there other traditional dishes you'd like to highlight? Sure. We also have Qatari versions of dishes like Kabsa and Biryani. As I told you, Kabsa is similar to Majboos but features more tomato or tomato paste, giving it a distinctive reddish hue. We also prepare Biryani, which has Indian origins, but is made with our unique blend of spices, making it different from the curry-style Biryani found in Indian cuisine. It is the same spices we use for Majboos, bringing a delightful twist to a classic dish. 6. Finally, what is your personal favorite among these dishes? Majboos is my all-time favorite. It reflects the essence of traditional Qatari cuisine, and I love the interplay of flavors, especially when made with red sauce. In Qatar, culinary traditions have deep roots, and dishes like Majboos hold a special place in our culture. #Chef #HamadAlhajiri #QatariChef
- Interview with Lawyer Dr. Ghada Darwish
1. Can you share your journey and what inspired you to become a lawyer? The reason for going for this choice of study is my passion for acquiring knowledge as it is endless. Each human being is a student in some way or other and they should gain some new piece of knowledge each day. Legal profession was always on the top of my career plans and my journey to become a lawyer began at a very early age. The lawyer’s role in a developed society always fascinated me and I vehemently believed that much could be done to the society by choosing this career and I realised it true, now. Unlike many other routine jobs, this profession can always make a change to the public and a lawyer’s profession is not like other professions because it demands creativity and perseverance. My view is to see things in a different perspective and probably that inspired me to become a lawyer. Above all it is a noble profession and could be a way towards becoming a respected scholar. In order to become a good lawyer, there should be good reflex and a deep knowledge base which should be up to date. 2. What areas of law do you specialize in, and how do they relate to the legal landscape in Qatar? I am a general services legal practitioner running a full services law firm; however, I have expertise in Sports Law and I sit as an arbitrator in many Sports Arbitration Panels including CAS/TAS Switzerland. Prior to Qatar hosting the World Cup, I had enrolled for and completed two Masters in Sports Law including the Masters I already had in public law, acquired a Diploma in International Arbitration. I authored a book on sports bidding titled “Taking Lessons From The Past: A Study On Countries’ Legal Frameworks While Hosting Sports Events.” and is currently the chairperson of the Qatar Anti-doping hearing panel and is listed as an arbitrator on the Qatar Sports Arbitration Tribunal (QSAT). I can proudly say that I am an authority in sports law in Qatar and beyond. I have made my mark in legal practice in Qatar, having built my almost 11 years old firm, Dr Ghada M. Darwish Karbon Law Firm which has gained grounds and has clients spread across different sectors. 3. Qatar has been undergoing significant legal reforms in recent years. How have these changes impacted your practice, and what do you see as the most important legal developments in the country? I go with the tide as I need to keep my practice in tune with the current realities. The legal reforms especially in the labour laws and the fast tracking of cases in employment disputes and family matters is a very good development. The recently established Investment court with peculiar procedure for its filings and proceedings is a great move in separating certain commercial disputes and ensuring that they receive expert hearing. 4. Qatar places importance on gender equality and women's empowerment. How do you think this has influenced the legal profession in the country, especially for female lawyers like yourself? The State of Qatar has laws that protect the right of everyone including the women and that is worth commending. Previously, the legal profession in Qatar had more men in it than women but at the moment, the disparity is no longer significant as everyone irrespective of gender is given a level ground to thrive. What I would want to see in the future is more women being trusted to handle core positions both within the State of Qatar and Internationally. 5. Can you describe a particularly challenging case you've worked on, and how you navigated the legal complexities involved? Every case has its peculiar challenges and it is hard to rate one above the other. However, in navigating the legal complexities, I give utmost priority to preparing for the cases and providing the clients with timely feedback to further ease their doubts and boost their trust in my capabilities as earning their trust gives a boost to my confidence in facing every challenging case. 6. In the context of international business and investment, what are some key legal considerations that companies should be aware of when operating in Qatar? For every business sector there are governing laws, from the financial to health to labour and employment and companies seeking to do business in Qatar should endeavour to see that their business activities and even internal policies are not in conflict with the provisions of the laws in Qatar. It is best to use the services of legal professionals while setting up and for reviewing documents, contracts and policies to advise on their legality. 7. How do you stay updated on the latest legal trends and changes, both domestically and internationally, to provide the best counsel to your clients? I read, I research and the internet has made it easier to get information on latest trends and changes. I attend industry events both locally and internationally and have a regular supply of the official gazettes; this way I stay updated on the current laws as well as operational frameworks. 8. Qatar is known for its multicultural society. How do you handle legal matters involving different cultural perspectives and expectations? My dealings with my clients are guided by contract and it is encompassing of all perspectives further to our negotiations and exchange of views. I also try to put myself in the shoes of my clients to better understand their case from their point of view while narrowing it down to the best options in law as it relates to their case. It also helps that I have a team made up of professionals from different backgrounds and nationalities that bring in their experiences while dealing with each case. 9. What advice would you give to aspiring female lawyers in Qatar who aspire to follow a similar career path? I will advise from my personal experience; my advice is that they should believe that impossibility is nothing. Once they have a target/goal, they should focus on it and keep pushing towards achieving it notwithstanding the challenges they may face. My advice to them is to always challenge yourself and go that extra mile. Set a good strategy for achieving the set goal. You will face many difficulties in life and occasionally may fail. But through each difficulty you must learn how to stand up and keep trying. And remember that “You will never fail until you give up trying”. For example, Thomas Edison attempted over a thousand time before he invented the light bulb that brought great benefit to humanity. Consider mentors as you grow in the career and feel free to change the mentors as your interests and path change. Of course, the beginning will always be difficult but the challenge will be to stand and be brave and strong, do not be afraid of failing. 10. Balancing a demanding legal career with personal life can be challenging. How do you manage work-life balance and self-care? I will say my ability to maintain a work-life balance is captured under the four cardinal points of time management, sectionalizing, delegation and prioritizing. 12. Are there any role models or mentors who have guided you in your legal journey, and what lessons have you learned from them? I had my first taste of mentorship through my parents especially my father who had and still guides me in the course of my career. I have some of my colleagues that I look up to and have been directly and indirectly mentored by them. I also do a review of my mentors as I progress in my career. Through them I have learned tenacity and how to navigate the diverse legal market and the ever-evolving legal landscape. 13. What do you enjoy most about practicing law in Qatar, and what aspects of your work do you find most rewarding? I am a Qatari lawyer, licensed to represent clients up to the cassation courts and it feels great practicing in your country and contributing my own quota in developing the laws and procedures in the country. It is also rewarding getting appreciated by my clients for the work and efforts I put into providing them efficient and efficient representation. 14. Outside of your legal career, what are some of your hobbies or interests that help you unwind and recharge? I enjoy drawing, painting and sports both playing and watching sports. #DrGhadaDarwish #Lawyer #QatariLawyer
